The Central Bank of Nigeria has launched a nationwide campaign against naira abuse, beginning at the Abuja International Trade Fair.

The Bank says abusing the naira , whether spraying at parties or mutilating in markets , weakens confidence, shortens the lifespan of notes, and costs the nation billions in reprints. Under the CBN Act, offenders risk fines of up to fifty thousand naira or six months imprisonment.

Officials insist the campaign will travel nationwide to remind Nigerians that respecting the naira is key to protecting both the economy and national identity.
