Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere has disowned a group claiming to be its faction, which called for the suspension of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume.
In a statement on Thursday, Afenifere’s Organising Secretary, Abagun Omololu, described the claim as false, unauthorised, and politically motivated. He stressed that Afenifere has no factions and remains under the leadership of Pa Reuben Fasoranti.
Omololu said the group’s attempt to link Akume to an EFCC investigation was malicious, noting that the SGF had initiated the complaint that led to the probe of one Andrew Uchi, who is not his aide.
Afenifere reaffirmed its stance on due process and warned political opportunists against using its name for partisan agendas.
Civil society organisations also condemned the attempt to associate Akume with the alleged fraud, describing it as baseless and politically driven.
