About 14 persons including a pregnant woman have been confirmed dead after a driver with a Toyota Camry rammed into bystanders who were watching the annual Biker’s Carnival, a part of the activities for Carnival Calabar.

According to witnesses, the vehicle that had illegally paid security operatives to access the carnival routes restricted to only participating motorbikes and official cars were seen spraying money while driving recklessly.

The incident which occurred on Tuesday the 27th of December led the governor of the state, Ben Ayade to cancel the Biker’s Carnival. The Governor also visited the hospital where injured victims were taken to paid the hospital bills.

Despite calls by some persons to cancel Carnival Calabar in honour of the dead victims, related activities like Miss Africa and the Carnival were held on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
