Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to stop monthly financial allocations to the Rivers State Government.
The judge ruled that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s presentation of the 2024 budget before only four members of the Rivers House of Assembly defied constitutional requirements.
Justice Abdulmalik criticized the governor’s receipt and use of monthly allocations since January as a “constitutional somersault” and stated that continuing these actions would further violate the 1999 Constitution. Consequently, she has restrained the CBN, Accountant General of the Federation, Zenith Bank, and Access Bank from granting Fubara access to funds from the Consolidated Revenue and Federation Account.
