Court orders FCT workers to call off strike, resume duties

Tension surrounding the ongoing strike action by Federal Capital Territory (FCT) workers took a dramatic turn as the National Industrial Court (NIC) ordered the workers to immediately suspend the strike and return to work.

According to reports , the court issued the directive while ruling on an application brought before it, stressing that the industrial action poses a serious disruption to public services and governance in the nation’s capital.

The court further restrained the workers’ unions from taking any step capable of paralysing activities in the FCT, pending the determination of the substantive suit. It emphasized that disputes should be resolved through legal and constitutional means rather than actions that affect residents and critical government operations.

As reported by Vanguard, the ruling has sparked mixed reactions, with government authorities welcoming the decision, while labour groups argue that their demands remain unresolved and legitimate.

With the court’s order now in effect, all eyes are on the FCT workers to see whether they will comply fully and how the development will shape ongoing negotiations between labour unions and authorities.
