The Federal High Court in Abuja has barred the Central Bank of Nigeria, from further disbursing monthly financial allocations to the Rivers State government.
The ruling yesterday also extends to the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), as well as Zenith Bank and Access Bank, where the state holds accounts.
In her judgment, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ruled that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s receipt and use of monthly allocations since January 2024 constitute a violation of the constitution that cannot be permitted to continue.
Meanwhile, Governor Fubara says concerns over the Federal High Court decision that restricted the release of state allocations is “the least” of his problems.
Speaking during a special thanksgiving service organised by the state government to celebrate his administration’s resilience amid escalating political crises, Governor Fubara assured that despite the court order, his administration would continue payments to contractors and ensure workers’ salaries are disbursed from today.
