The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has assured residents that the driver of a diesel tanker involved in a spill along the Apapa corridor will not escape punishment, as investigations into the incident intensify.
According to our reporter, the spill occurred after the tanker reportedly lost control, leading to a massive diesel discharge on the roadway and causing severe traffic disruption in the area. The incident sparked concerns over public safety and environmental hazards, especially in an axis already notorious for congestion.
Speaking on the development, LASTMA officials, as quoted by Vanguard, confirmed that the driver has been apprehended and will be handed over to relevant authorities for prosecution. The agency stressed that negligence and traffic violations, particularly involving heavy-duty vehicles, will be dealt with decisively.
Channels Television reports that emergency responders were swiftly deployed to contain the spill and prevent fire outbreaks, while traffic officers diverted vehicles to alternative routes.
LASTMA reiterated its warning to tanker operators and drivers to adhere strictly to safety regulations, noting that the state government remains committed to enforcing traffic laws and protecting lives and property across Lagos.
