Hundreds of women from Umuechem Community in Etche Local Government Area staged a protest at the government house and the police headquarters at Moscow road.

The women who paraded several placards lamented that they might die of hunger following the activities of land grabbers who have taken over their farmlands.

They said they no longer have land to farm on and could no longer fend for and send their children to school as their lands which they said is their major source of livelihood have been taken over by persons from the neighbouring Iguruta community in Ikwerre LGA.

Addressing the women at the police headquarters Deputy Commissioner of police DCP Hamza assured the women that the police would get to the root of the matter. He however faulted the women for wasting time to lay their complaints.
