FCT Residents sue Wike, Demand N500 Million damages

News

Vulnerable residents in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), including scavengers, beggars, and petty traders, have filed a suit against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, demanding N500 million in damages for alleged fundamental rights violations. The suit, filed by lawyer Abba Hikima, claims the arbitrary arrest, detention, harassment, and extortion of these citizens by security operatives violated their constitutional rights. The claim includes that the affected individuals were forcefully apprehended and mistreated by a joint task force under a directive from Wike. The court has adjourned the matter until February 4, 2025, for a hearing.
