The Federal Government has taken action against 13 students from the Federal Government College (FGC), Enugu State, by suspending them for six weeks due to alleged bullying. This development was announced in Abuja by Folashade Boriowo, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Education.
Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa ordered the suspension following a viral video that revealed acts of bullying among the students. Dr. Alausa emphasized the ministry’s commitment to ensuring safety and discipline in all federal schools nationwide.
According to a recent report, the incident involved the group assault of an SS1 day student on November 7, which gained attention after being widely shared on social media. The ministry set up a disciplinary committee to probe the situation. The report stated, “Based on the findings, all 13 students involved have been placed on a six-week suspension pending the report of the investigative committee.”
Dr. Alausa has also instructed the School-Based Management Committee to work with security agencies to conduct a comprehensive investigation, considering any external influences. The school has engaged law enforcement and reviewed safety protocols to bolster security measures. Additionally, counseling and rehabilitation support will be provided to help reintegrate the affected students positively into the school environment.
