Nigerian troops have dealt a significant blow to insurgency in the North-East, successfully repelling a coordinated attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and killing no fewer than 38 fighters.
According to Premium Times and Channels Television, the fierce gun battle unfolded in parts of Borno State, where insurgents reportedly launched a well-planned assault on military positions.
Security sources revealed that the troops responded with superior firepower and tactical resistance, forcing the attackers to retreat after suffering heavy casualties.
The operation is being described as a major success in ongoing efforts to curb insurgency in the region, with military authorities reaffirming their commitment to flushing out terrorist elements.
Analysts say the development could boost confidence in the military’s counter-insurgency strategy, even as concerns remain over the persistent threat posed by armed groups in the North-East.
Residents in affected communities have also expressed cautious relief, as intensified military operations continue to restore a sense of security in the region.
