Segun Sowunmi, a former spokesman to ex-PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has signaled a strong possibility of leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV’s Prime Time on Tuesday, Sowunmi stated that he would only support Tinubu if he officially defects to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stressing his opposition to political hypocrisy.
“If I’m going to support Tinubu in 2027, I will leave and join his party. I don’t believe in pretending to be in one party while supporting someone else,” he said.
Sowunmi, who has spent 28 years in the PDP, expressed frustration over the party’s failure to embrace reform, suggesting that current political dynamics in his state and ethnic group could influence his decision to switch allegiance.
