The Labour Party (LP) has expressed confidence in its ability to secure victory in the 2027 presidential election without forming a coalition, citing its robust grassroots support and growing appeal among Nigerians.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, dismissed rumors of a coalition agreement with Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Speaking in an interview, Ifoh stated, “Our performance in the 2023 elections clearly demonstrated our capacity to challenge and even unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) independently.”
While asserting the party’s readiness to stand alone, Ifoh clarified that the Labour Party remains open to alliances under favorable terms. “We are not shutting the door on a possible merger if the conditions are right and in the best interest of Nigerians,” he added.
The Labour Party’s impressive outing in the 2023 elections, where it emerged as a formidable challenger to established parties, has bolstered its confidence. The party continues to advocate for policies centered on transparency, economic growth, and grassroots development, which it believes resonate strongly with the electorate.
As the 2027 elections approach, political analysts are closely watching the Labour Party’s strategies and its potential impact on Nigeria’s political landscape.
