Lagos Steps Up Demolition Drive as Government Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Structures Along Badagry Expressway

The Lagos State Government has intensified its enforcement campaign against illegal structures along the Badagry Expressway, as authorities move to clear encroachments and restore order along one of the state’s busiest transport corridors.

According to other news outfit, officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) and other enforcement agencies carried out the operation as part of ongoing efforts to remove unauthorized buildings, roadside shanties, and other structures obstructing the highway.

State authorities said the exercise is aimed at improving traffic flow, enhancing public safety, protecting public infrastructure, and paving the way for ongoing road expansion and urban renewal projects.

As reported by Channels Television, the government reiterated that property owners and occupants had been served the necessary notices before the commencement of the exercise, urging residents to comply with planning regulations to avoid sanctions.

The latest demolition drive has generated mixed reactions among residents and business owners. While some welcomed the move, arguing that illegal developments have contributed to traffic congestion and safety concerns, others appealed to the government to consider the livelihoods of those affected and ensure due process is followed.

The operation forms part of the Lagos State Government’s broader urban planning strategy to tackle indiscriminate development, reclaim public spaces, and improve the state’s transport infrastructure as the commercial capital continues to expand.
