A member of the House of Representatives representing Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency, Remi Oseni, has advised Nigerians to prioritise sporting activities for improved well-being, noting that wellness now goes beyond medication.
Oseni made the call on Saturday during the centennial celebration of the Ibadan Tennis Club, held at Iyaganku GRA, Ibadan, Oyo State. The event featured a lecture, luncheon, and a N750 million fundraising drive. He praised the club’s century-long contributions to community development and described sports as the “natural way” to stay healthy and live longer.
The lecture at the event, themed “The Burgle Blast of Financial Technology in Nigerian Economic Space: Perspectives, Choices and Implications,” highlighted the intersection of technology and economics in Nigeria.
Club President Oladipupo Sule marked the 100th anniversary as a milestone, reflecting the club’s enduring legacy and social impact. He announced several centennial projects, including scholarships for 100 brilliant but underprivileged students, medical outreach programmes across 10 local governments, and a year-long tennis development initiative for schoolchildren.
The fundraising aims to support these initiatives, focused on education, healthcare, and sports infrastructure.
Dignitaries present included the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi; Kemi Alao-Akala, wife of the late former governor and Lady Chairperson of the event; and several lawmakers and community leaders.
