The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has announced plans to include three new indexes—services, energy, and farm produce—in its rebased Consumer Price Index (CPI), set for release in January 2025.
During a sensitization workshop in Lagos, Dr. Ayo Andrew, Head of Price Statistics at the NBS, explained that the new indexes will measure price changes in services like education and transport, energy price fluctuations, and farm produce volatility.
This development follows the NBS’s earlier announcement to rebase the GDP and CPI to reflect current economic realities and structural changes.
