NDLEA Arrests 312, Seizes 804kg Hard Drugs in 11 Months

News

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Akwa Ibom State arrested 312 suspects and seized 803.672kg of hard drugs between June 2024 and May 2025. State commander Mrs. Obot Bassey disclosed this in Uyo during the 2025 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Bassey said 38 drug offenders were prosecuted and convicted, while 43 addicts underwent rehabilitation and 179 people received counselling. The agency also conducted drug prevention education at 91 locations.

She urged collective efforts in prevention, describing drug abuse as both a criminal and public health issue. Bassey appealed for more support, especially logistics vehicles, to enhance operations across the 31 local government areas.
