Dr. Bernard Doro, the newly appointed Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, has pledged to maximize Nigeria’s resources to fight poverty and uplift vulnerable communities across the country.
Speaking during his official assumption of office in Abuja, Dr. Doro revealed that over 60 percent of Nigerians currently live in multidimensional poverty, underscoring the urgent need for efficient, transparent, and accountable social intervention programs.
“Our mandate is clear: we must restore hope and foster collective action to ensure that no Nigerian is left behind,” Dr. Doro said, emphasizing the importance of targeted strategies and measurable impact.
The minister called on stakeholders, community leaders, and citizens to actively participate in designing and implementing programs that tackle both the immediate and structural causes of poverty.
Experts note that Dr. Doro’s leadership comes at a critical time, as Nigeria continues to grapple with high unemployment, food insecurity, and widening inequality, making strong and accountable governance in the humanitarian sector more important than ever
