Nigeria, 106 others back UN vote voicing support for Ukraine

UNN

According to reports by Reuters and Al Jazeera, the resolution—adopted at the United Nations General Assembly—calls for respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The vote saw 107 countries, including Nigeria, stand firmly in favor, while a handful opposed and several others abstained.

Diplomatic observers say Nigeria’s decision reflects its long-standing position on upholding international law and respecting national borders. Analysts quoted by BBC note that the vote once again highlights the deep divisions within the global community over the conflict.

The resolution, though not legally binding, carries significant political weight, sending a strong message about where the majority of the international community stands. For Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, the move underscores its voice in global diplomacy at a time of heightened geopolitical tension.

The development comes amid continued calls for peace and renewed diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.
