The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has issued a strong public warning after a wave of fake recruitment adverts began spreading across social media and suspicious websites, luring desperate job seekers with false promises.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the NIS dismissed the viral posts as fraudulent schemes created by scammers aiming to extort money from unsuspecting Nigerians. The Service stressed that it is not currently conducting any recruitment exercise, urging citizens to ignore all unofficial announcements.
Officials explained that genuine NIS job openings are only announced through verified government channels, including the agency’s official website and reputable media outlets — never through random online platforms or WhatsApp broadcasts.
Security experts have also cautioned the public to stay vigilant, warning that such fake postings often lead to identity theft, financial loss, and cyber fraud.
The NIS reiterated its commitment to transparency and warned that perpetrators behind these recruitment scams will be tracked and prosecuted.
As unemployment continues to drive desperate job searches, the agency’s warning serves as a crucial reminder: if it’s not from an official source, it’s a trap.
