Nigeria has been ranked as Africa’s third most powerful military in the 2025 Global Firepower Military Strength Index. The annual report assessed 145 countries using over 60 metrics, including troop strength, equipment, finances, logistics, and geography.
Egypt retained its position as the continent’s top military force, followed by Algeria, with South Africa in fourth place. Nigeria’s rise reflects its increased investment in personnel, equipment, and counter-terrorism operations.
