“Nigeria Survived a Civil War, It Will Defeat Insurgency” — Senator Jimoh Ibrahim Assures ECOWAS Envoys

Senator Jimoh Ibrahim has expressed confidence in Nigeria’s ability to overcome its security challenges, declaring that the country will defeat insurgency just as it survived the devastating Nigerian Civil War.

Speaking during an engagement with envoys from the Economic Community of West African States, Ibrahim emphasized Nigeria’s resilience and long-standing commitment to peace, stability, and regional cooperation.

According to reports by Nigerian media outlets, the senator noted that despite ongoing security concerns in parts of the country, Nigeria remains strong and capable of overcoming threats posed by insurgent groups. He urged regional leaders and diplomatic representatives to maintain confidence in Nigeria’s institutions and security architecture.

Drawing parallels with the country’s experience during the Nigerian Civil War, Ibrahim argued that Nigeria has repeatedly demonstrated the capacity to withstand major crises and emerge stronger.

“The nation survived a civil war and will also defeat insurgency,” he reportedly told the ECOWAS delegation, stressing the importance of unity and regional collaboration in tackling security threats across West Africa.

His remarks come at a time when ECOWAS member states continue to strengthen cooperation on counter-terrorism, border security, and efforts to combat violent extremism across the region.

What do you think? Can Nigeria overcome its security challenges through stronger regional cooperation and national unity?
