The Deputy Manager of the NNPC Ltd Command and Control Centre, Murtala Muhammad, says over 8,000 illegal refineries and 5,800 illegal oil pipeline connections were detected and destroyed within six months.
Muhammad who disclosed this in Abuja at a Stakeholders Engagement Session with National Assembly journalists, highlighted that oil theft remains a serious concern, especially in Bayelsa, Rivers, Imo, and Abia state.
Our correspondent Nathan Williams reports that the NNPCL Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, said NNPCL has the capacity to increase crude oil production from 1.7 million barrels per day to 3 million, and notes that if oil theft and pipeline vandalization is curbed, it would create an enabling environment for optimal oil production of crude oil per day.
