A Chinese expatriate who was abducted in Edo State has finally regained his freedom after spending more than three months in the custody of his captors.
According to reports by The Nation and Vanguard, the victim, whose identity has been withheld for security reasons, was rescued during a coordinated operation involving security operatives and local vigilante groups. Sources revealed that the abductors had relocated the expatriate multiple times within dense forest areas to evade arrest.
Daily Trust also reported that the prolonged captivity had sparked concerns among members of the local business community, particularly foreign investors who considered the incident a major security setback for the state.
Authorities have not disclosed whether any ransom was paid, but officials confirmed that investigations are ongoing to track down the remaining suspects and dismantle the kidnapping ring responsible for the attack.
The rescued expatriate is currently receiving medical attention and psychological support. Edo residents and community leaders have commended security agencies for the breakthrough, expressing hope that the incident will serve as a turning point in the state’s fight against kidnapping.
