Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has filed a N5 billion defamation lawsuit against Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi of Ebonyi North Central over alleged damaging remarks made during a live interview.
Filed at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja through her lawyer, Michael Numa, the suit accuses Nwaebonyi of calling her a “gold digger, habitual liar, and habitual blackmailer” during a Channels Television interview on March 6, 2025.
Akpoti-Uduaghan also rejected the claim that she is a mother of six from different men, describing it as baseless, malicious, and harmful to her reputation as a female political figure.
She is seeking a court order restraining Nwaebonyi from making further defamatory comments, a public retraction and apology on the same media platform, and N5 billion in damages. The suit also calls for the apology to be published in at least two national newspapers within seven days of judgment, along with a 10% annual post-judgment interest until the debt is paid.
