Tensions are rising between Nigeria and Mozambique following fresh allegations of rights violations against Nigerian citizens abroad.

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has accused Mozambican authorities of bypassing established diplomatic protocols in the arrest and deportation of Nigerians, sparking concerns over due process and international law.

According to reports by Channels Television and The Guardian Nigeria, the commission described the actions as “irregular and unacceptable,” stressing that proper consular engagement was not followed before the deportations were carried out.

NIDCOM officials insist that such procedures are critical in protecting the rights and dignity of citizens abroad, warning that disregard for these protocols could strain bilateral relations. The agency also revealed it is actively engaging relevant authorities to ensure accountability and prevent future occurrences.

The development has triggered reactions from stakeholders, with many calling for stronger diplomatic measures to safeguard Nigerians living and working overseas.
