Tinubu Assumed Office When Nigeria Needed Decisive Leadership Most — Okowa

Former Delta State Governor and ex-Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ifeanyi Okowa, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying he assumed office at a time when Nigeria desperately needed bold and decisive leadership.

According to reports by The Punch, Vanguard, and The Nation, Okowa said the country was facing significant economic and governance challenges when Tinubu took over in May 2023, adding that difficult decisions were inevitable to reposition the nation’s economy.

The former governor acknowledged that some of the administration’s reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy and exchange rate reforms, have imposed short-term hardships on Nigerians. However, he argued that such measures were necessary to address long-standing structural problems in the economy.

Okowa urged Nigerians to remain patient with the ongoing reforms, expressing optimism that the policies would eventually deliver sustainable economic growth and improved living standards.

His remarks come amid continued national debate over the Tinubu administration’s economic policies, with supporters describing the reforms as necessary for long-term stability, while critics argue they have worsened the cost-of-living crisis across the country.
