The National Assembly has dismissed claims circulating on social media that President Bola Tinubu will present the 2025 budget to a joint session on Wednesday.
In a statement on Tuesday, Dr. Ali Umoru, Secretary of Research and Information at the National Assembly, labeled the reports as false and urged the public to disregard them.
“The purported claim that the 2025 budget will be presented tomorrow is untrue. The necessary legislative process for budget presentation, including the approval of the MTEF and FSP, is still ongoing,” the statement read.
Umoru emphasized that official updates about the National Assembly should only come through authorized channels, warning against the spread of unverified information.
The clarification follows ongoing deliberations by the Senate Committee on Finance with government ministries, departments, and agencies on the 2024-2026 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper (MTEF/FSP), a prerequisite for the budget presentation.
The 2025 budget, once presented, is expected to detail the government’s fiscal strategy and economic priorities for the coming year.
