Tragedy Strikes Again: Police Inspector Takes Own Life in Niger Over Alleged Links to Bandit Arms Deal

News

Tragedy has once again shaken Nigeria’s security community as a police inspector reportedly committed suicide in Niger State, allegedly over fears of being exposed for links to arms dealings with bandits.

Security sources disclosed that the officer took his own life after learning he was under investigation for allegedly supplying weapons to criminal groups terrorising communities in parts of the state. The incident marks another disturbing case of suicide within the police force, raising fresh concerns about internal compromise and psychological pressure among officers.

the inspector was said to have been withdrawn and questioned in connection with illegal arms circulation before the incident occurred. Residents described the development as shocking, noting that the officer appeared calm in the days leading up to his death.

Vanguard reports that authorities have launched an internal probe to unravel the circumstances surrounding the suicide, while also expanding investigations into alleged security personnel aiding bandit operations in the North-Central region.

Security analysts warn that the case highlights a dangerous intersection of corruption, mental health strain, and insecurity, stressing the need for deeper reforms, intelligence screening, and psychological support within the force.

As the investigation continues, the incident has renewed public outrage and calls for accountability, with many Nigerians demanding decisive action against any security personnel found collaborating with criminal networks.
