Trump Floats ‘Trump Strait’ Name for Strait of Hormuz Amid Iran Conflict

US President Donald Trump has once again stirred international attention after suggesting that the Strait of Hormuz could be renamed “Trump Strait.”

Trump made the proposal in a post on his Truth Social platform on Wednesday, claiming that the United States now has control of the strategic waterway.

“Now that we have it under U.S.A. control, should we change the name Hormuz Strait to TRUMP STRAIT?” Trump wrote, adding that the name would be “hotter” than ever.

The comments come as tensions between the United States and Iran continue to escalate, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining a major flashpoint in the conflict.

other media outfit reported that Trump’s proposal follows his previous efforts to rename geographical landmarks, including the Gulf of Mexico, which his administration has referred to as the “Gulf of America.”

Other international outlets, including the Times of India and Economic Times, also reported the proposal, noting that the Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategically important waterways because of its role in global oil transportation.

However, renaming the waterway would not be as simple as changing a label on a map. The Strait of Hormuz is an internationally recognised geographical name, and Trump’s suggestion has so far remained just that—a proposal.

Interestingly, this is not the first time Trump has floated the idea. Earlier this year, he had also spoken about calling the waterway either the “Strait of America” or the “Strait of Trump.”

For now, the world still knows it as the Strait of Hormuz—but if Trump gets his way, geography textbooks may soon have a very familiar surname to deal with.
