President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he has ordered the dismissal of all remaining U.S. attorneys appointed by his predecessor, Joe Biden.
Citing concerns over politicization within the Department of Justice, Trump wrote on Truth Social, “We must ‘clean house’ IMMEDIATELY and restore confidence.” He added that a fair justice system is essential for “America’s Golden Age.”
While it is customary for a new president to replace U.S. attorneys, many Biden-appointed prosecutors had already resigned following Trump’s election victory. The Justice Department has undergone a significant shakeup under Trump, with multiple high-ranking officials removed or reassigned.
Among those dismissed were members of special counsel Jack Smith’s team, who had pursued criminal cases against Trump before they were dropped. Additionally, the acting U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York resigned last week after being asked to withdraw corruption charges against New York Mayor Eric Adams.
