The U.S. has promised to provide nearly $414 million in humanitarian assistance for the Democratic Republic of Congo, as more than 25 million of its population need such aid.
Confirming this to newsmen today, U.S. Ambassador to the UN Agencies for Food and Agriculture, Jeffrey Prescott, said this funding also includes direct support of agricultural commodities from American farmers.
According to Prescott, a significant amount of that money would go to UN agencies and aid groups providing urgent food assistance, healthcare and nutrition support, shelter, water, sanitation and hygiene.
This brings U.S. total funding for Democratic Republic of Congo since October last year to $838 million.
