The Vice-Chancellor of Precious Cornerstone University, Timothy Adejumo, has called on the Federal Government to extend support to private tertiary institutions to mitigate the economic challenges impacting their operations. During a press conference in Ibadan on Wednesday, marking the university’s third convocation ceremony, Adejumo highlighted that income from student fees is no longer sufficient to cover operational costs.
He urged the government to include private institutions in the benefits of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, emphasizing, “Private universities are helping the government to train students that should ordinarily be roaming about. The government should not discriminate. Private universities need support.”
Adejumo also announced that 118 students would receive degrees at the upcoming convocation, with 14 earning First-Class honours, 65 obtaining Second-Class Upper, 37 receiving Second-Class Lower, and 2 achieving Third-Class honours. He reaffirmed the university’s dedication to producing graduates with strong character and entrepreneurial skills.
