WAEC Releases 2026 WASSCE Results as Over 1.2 Million Candidates Secure Credits in English, Mathematics
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates, revealing that more than 1.2 million candidates obtained credit passes in both English Language and Mathematics.
The examination body announced the release of the results during a press briefing on Tuesday, describing the performance as a significant milestone despite persistent challenges encountered during the conduct of the examinations.
According to WAEC, the number of candidates who earned the minimum benchmark of five credits, including English Language and Mathematics, represents a substantial proportion of the total candidates who sat for the examination, making them eligible for admission into tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
The council also disclosed that thousands of candidates had their results withheld over alleged examination malpractice, stressing that investigations are ongoing and affected candidates would be informed once the review process is concluded.
Candidates have been advised to check their results through WAEC’s official result-checking portal using their examination numbers and result checker PINs.
The release of the 2026 WASSCE results has sparked widespread reactions among students, parents and school administrators, with many taking to social media to celebrate outstanding performances while others await the resolution of withheld results.
