Wike Urges States to Adopt FCT, Rivers ‘Rainbow Coalition’ Model Ahead of 2027 Elections

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged other states to adopt the ‘Rainbow Coalition’ model operating in Rivers State and the FCT, saying the political arrangement can promote peace, cooperation and stability ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to reports by The Abuja Inquirer and The Star, Wike made the call during an engagement with political leaders, traditional rulers, women and youths in Kuje Area Council, Abuja.

The former Rivers State governor said the coalition had brought members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) together despite their political differences.

He argued that politicians from opposing parties could work towards common goals instead of allowing party disagreements to fuel hostility and violence.

“If Nigerian politics can come to this level, we will not be hearing about fighting; we will not be seeing ourselves killing each other,” Wike said.

The minister explained that the coalition was designed to encourage collective decision-making and cooperation among political stakeholders, with support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid forming a major part of the arrangement.

Wike also urged residents to consider accessibility, accountability and performance when choosing their political representatives, stressing that elected officials should remain connected to the people they represent.

The Rainbow Coalition reflects ongoing efforts by Wike and his political allies to bring different political groups together ahead of the 2027 elections.
