The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance regulatory collaboration in Nigeria’s telecommunications sector. The MoU, signed on Tuesday in Abuja, aims to improve consumer protection, market efficiency, and fair competition.
FCCPC CEO Tunji Bello and NCC CEO Dr. Aminu Maida emphasized the importance of inter-agency cooperation to address consumer challenges and regulatory gaps. Bello explained that overlapping regulations between the two agencies would ensure effective oversight. The partnership aims to streamline operations, minimize confusion, and create a unified approach to regulating telecom issues.
Maida called the collaboration a necessary step for advancing consumer welfare in the rapidly evolving telecom sector, highlighting its role in Nigeria’s economic development. The agencies hope the MoU will inspire other regulators to adopt similar frameworks to benefit consumers across sectors.
