Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested no fewer than 30 suspected cultists during a raid on an alleged initiation gathering held inside an uncompleted building in the state.
According to reports by several Nigerian media outlets, the suspects were rounded up following intelligence reports that members of a cult group had converged at the location for a secret meeting and initiation exercise. Security operatives reportedly stormed the venue before the ceremony could be concluded, leading to the mass arrest.
Police authorities said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were allegedly involved in cult-related activities, a development that has continued to raise security concerns across several communities in the state. The command added that investigations are ongoing to identify the leaders of the group and uncover the full scope of their operations.
The operation mirrors similar crackdowns recently reported by news platforms such as The Punch, The Guardian, TheCable and TVC News, where dozens of suspected cultists were arrested during initiation ceremonies and unlawful gatherings in different parts of the country.
Police spokespersons have reiterated the command’s commitment to rooting out cultism and other violent crimes, warning youths against joining secret cult groups. Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies whenever suspicious gatherings are noticed.
The arrested suspects are expected to face further investigation and possible prosecution as authorities intensify efforts to curb cult-related violence in Ogun State.
