State of the Nation: Nigeria’s Challenges Are Political, Not Religious — YCE Scribe Oyewole

The Secretary-General of the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE), Dr. Kunle Olajide Oyewole, has said Nigeria’s persistent problems are rooted in politics and governance rather than religion.

According to reports by The Guardian Nigeria and Punch Newspapers, Oyewole argued that the country’s deepening insecurity, economic hardship, and governance failures should not be viewed through a religious lens. Instead, he maintained that poor leadership, political interests, and weak institutions remain the major obstacles to national progress.

He warned Nigerians against allowing politicians to exploit ethnic and religious differences for personal gain, stressing that such narratives only worsen divisions and distract from the real issues affecting the country.

Oyewole urged leaders at all levels to prioritize good governance, accountability, and policies that promote national unity and development. He also called on citizens to reject divisive politics and hold public office holders accountable for their performance rather than their religious or ethnic affiliations.

His comments come amid ongoing national conversations over insecurity, economic reforms, and growing concerns about political polarization across Nigeria.
