The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has given the Federal Government a 14-day ultimatum to address unresolved issues. ASUU is demanding the conclusion of the renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU Agreement based on the 2021 Nimi Briggs Committee’s Draft Agreement and the release of withheld salaries from the 2022 strike.
ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, expressed frustration with the government’s lack of action, stating, “In view of the foregoing, ASUU resolves to give the Nigerian Government another 14 days, in addition to the earlier 21 days… during which all the lingering issues must have been concretely addressed to the satisfaction of the membership of the union.”
The union is also pushing for the payment of unpaid salaries for staff on sabbatical and part-time appointments affected by the IPPIS, funding for public university revitalization, and the payment of Earned Academic Allowances. ASUU warned of potential industrial action if these issues are not resolved.
