A state high court in Port Harcourt has reserved ruling to February 27 on the preliminary objection filed by the respondent lawyer,Dickson Celestine challenging the jurisdiction of the court to hear the fundamental rights suit filed by the chief of staff Rivers state Government House Edison Ehie against the police.
The presiding judge, Justice S. H Aprioku said the outcome of the ruling on the preliminary objection will determine if the court will proceed hearing on the substantive suit filed by the applicant, Edison Ehie restraining the police from arresting, detaining and harassing him over his alleged involvement in the invasion of the Rivers state House of Assembly on the 29th, October 2023.
As you may know, the Martin Amaewhule led lawmakers petition the Rivers state commissioner of Police linking Edison Ehie to the invasion and burning of the hallowed chambers of the Rivers state House of Assembly by unknown hoodlums.
