The Enugu State Government has vowed to investigate and arrest individuals operating an illegal taskforce collecting revenue from scavengers.

Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, made this known on Tuesday in Enugu, condemning the unauthorized group. He stated, “I want to let Ndi Enugu know that there is no taskforce that has been set up by the government of Enugu State around environmental matters.”

Onyia revealed that a government committee had been established to review options for addressing scavenger activities, which pose safety concerns. He also warned the public against paying money to unauthorized revenue collectors.

The government has ordered the immediate recovery of funds illegally collected by the purported taskforce.
