The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Rivers State Government have dismissed calls by a faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s resignation or impeachment. The APC faction, led by Chief Tony Okocha, accused Fubara of failing to uphold a peace resolution and disrespecting President Bola Tinubu.
Fubara, however, remains defiant, urging his supporters to remain peaceful. “We will come out stronger and better. Please continue to follow my path of peace,” he assured.
The APC faction, loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike, rejected Fubara’s invitation for dialogue, labeling it a “Greek gift.” Meanwhile, Rivers State Commissioner for Information, Joseph Johnson, dismissed Okocha’s remarks, calling him an “impostor” with no authority to speak for the APC.
The PDP described the impeachment calls as baseless, with its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, accusing the APC of fueling political tension. “Fubara remains popular and is delivering good governance,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State House of Assembly has issued an arrest warrant for the chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, Justice Adolphus Enebeli (retd.), over an alleged electoral malpractice.
As tensions rise, Rivers Elders, led by former Governor Rufus Ada-George, have called for calm, urging all factions to prioritize peace and the state’s stability.
