The Senate and House of Representatives have announced the postponement of their plenary resumption, previously scheduled for Tuesday, January 28, 2025. Both legislative chambers will now reconvene on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
In separate statements, the Clerk of the Senate, Andrew Nwoba, and the House of Representatives spokesman, Akin Rotimi, attributed the delay to ongoing budget defenses by ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
“The postponement is necessary to allow Committees sufficient time to conclude ongoing budget engagements and defenses with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies,” Rotimi explained.
This follows the presentation of the ₦49.7 trillion 2025 budget proposal by President Bola Tinubu to the National Assembly on December 18, 2024. The proposal is currently undergoing scrutiny to ensure its timely approval and alignment with national priorities.
The rescheduled plenary date allows both chambers to focus on finalizing the budget process and related legislative activities.
