Nigeria’s national power grid experienced a partial collapse on Tuesday, with power generation dropping to 0 MW between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., following earlier peaks of 3,934.77 MW in the morning and 2,711 MW around 1 p.m.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed the incident, with TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah explaining, “The national grid experienced a partial disturbance at about 1:52 pm today, 5th November 2024.” She added that the disruption was caused by “a series of line and generator trippings that caused instability in the grid and, consequently, the partial disturbance of the system.”
Mbah assured that efforts to restore power were already in progress. “Presently, bulk power supply has been restored to Abuja at 2:49 pm, and we are gradually restoring it to other parts of the country,” she said, while apologizing to customers for the inconvenience.
