The Federal Government has confirmed that Nigerian soldiers are now receiving a minimum monthly wage of ₦100,000, following the implementation of the new national minimum wage approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to The Punch and Premium Times, the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, disclosed the development while highlighting the government’s efforts to improve the welfare of military personnel amid ongoing security operations across the country.

Badaru said the wage increase is part of broader reforms aimed at boosting the morale of officers and soldiers, noting that the administration is also investing in better housing, equipment, healthcare, and other welfare packages for members of the Armed Forces.

The minister stressed that improving the living conditions of military personnel remains a top priority, especially as troops continue to battle terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other security threats across different parts of the country.

According to reports by TheCable and Channels Television, the Defence Ministry also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the country’s security architecture through increased funding, enhanced training, and improved operational capacity for the Armed Forces.

The announcement comes amid renewed calls by security experts and stakeholders for sustained investment in the welfare of military personnel, with many arguing that better remuneration and working conditions are essential to maintaining a motivated and effective fighting force.
