Outrage in Borno as Parents Say 36 Children Are Still Missing After School Attack, Youths Take to the Streets

Tension has gripped Borno State after distraught parents revealed that 36 children remain missing following a deadly attack on a secondary school in Lassa, Askira-Uba Local Government Area, sparking protests by angry youths demanding immediate government action.

According to reports by The Punch, Reuters, and the Associated Press (AP), the students were abducted when suspected ISWAP insurgents stormed Government Day Secondary School during a national examination. Parents say they have compiled a register of missing children as fears grow over the fate of their loved ones.

Eyewitnesses said frustrated youths confronted a government delegation that visited the community, accusing authorities of failing to protect students and calling for swift security operations to rescue those still in captivity. State officials have confirmed that some victims have been rescued, but dozens of students and at least one staff member remain unaccounted for.

The latest tragedy has reignited concerns over the persistent threat of school attacks in northeastern Nigeria, with rights groups warning that repeated abductions continue to endanger children’s education and safety.
