The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has introduced a public reporting system to enhance cash availability through Over-The-Counter (OTC) withdrawals and Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).
In a circular dated November 29, 2024, effective December 1, the CBN provided contact details for its branches nationwide to enable Nigerians to report cash accessibility issues. The directive aims to improve currency circulation and ensure efficient cash disbursement by Deposit Money Banks (DMBs).
Signed by Acting Directors Solaja Olayemi (Currency Operations) and Isa-Olatinwo Aisha (Branch Operations), the circular mandated DMBs to comply with cash disbursement guidelines, warning that the CBN would intensify oversight to enforce compliance.
The apex bank urged the public to report difficulties accessing cash at banks, emphasizing that this initiative is part of efforts to address challenges and optimize currency circulation.
