Steps to Report Cash Scarcity at ATMs and Banks to CBN

News

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has introduced a public reporting system to enhance cash availability through Over-The-Counter (OTC) withdrawals and Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).

In a circular dated November 29, 2024, effective December 1, the CBN provided contact details for its branches nationwide to enable Nigerians to report cash accessibility issues. The directive aims to improve currency circulation and ensure efficient cash disbursement by Deposit Money Banks (DMBs).

Signed by Acting Directors Solaja Olayemi (Currency Operations) and Isa-Olatinwo Aisha (Branch Operations), the circular mandated DMBs to comply with cash disbursement guidelines, warning that the CBN would intensify oversight to enforce compliance.

The apex bank urged the public to report difficulties accessing cash at banks, emphasizing that this initiative is part of efforts to address challenges and optimize currency circulation.

To report cash scarcity at DMB branches and/or ATMs not dispensing cash, take the following steps:

Provide the relevant details which include the account name/name of the DMB/amount/time and date of Incident(s) among others via the following dedicated channels:

  1. Phone call: Make phone calls to the designated phone number(s) of the CBN branch in the state where the incident(s) occurred. Or,
  2. Email: Members of the public are enjoined to send an email of the incident to the designated email address for the state in which the incident(s) occurred.

Find below the designated phone numbers and email addresses of the CBN branches across the 36 states of the Federation.
