The U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, Kurt Campbell, has praised Nigeria for its role in the successful repatriation of $52.88 million linked to forfeited luxury assets, including the Galactica Star Superyacht. The assets were tied to former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke and her associates.
Campbell, during a valedictory call with Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, commended Nigeria’s efforts in combating corruption and the strong partnership that facilitated the recovery. He pledged continued U.S. support and cooperation.
Tuggar highlighted the significance of the funds, which will be used to expand electricity access through the Renewable Energy Scale-Up project and the Rural Electrification Agency.
The officials also discussed leveraging technology for digital asset management and positioning Nigeria as a hub for data mining, storage, and artificial intelligence, underscoring the countries’ commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
