The United States Embassy in Nigeria has announced changes to its immigrant visa application process, effective January 1, 2025. Applicants with scheduled interviews will now be required to visit the US Consulate General in Lagos twice.
The embassy, in a statement on its official X page, explained that the new process aims to streamline visa preparations and minimize delays. The first visit will involve an in-person document review with consular staff to ensure all required documents are complete. The second visit, scheduled by the National Visa Center (NVC), will be the formal visa interview with a consular officer.
Applicants who fail to complete the document review before their interview will need to reschedule their appointments.
This update follows an earlier announcement in July 2024 about a new visa services provider handling operations at the US consulates in Abuja and Lagos, effective August 26, 2024.
