Benue Judiciary Protests Over N75,000 Minimum Wage

Members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, Benue State chapter, have locked up the gates of the state High Court in Makurdi in protest over the non-implementation of the N75,000 new minimum wage. Our correspondent observed union members barricading the gate and preventing entry into the premises. According to Assistant Secretary Jooli David, the action follows the union’s decision to issue an indefinite strike notice on December 2, due to the non-payment of the new minimum wage. The state government had begun implementing the N75,000 new minimum wage for workers in the state from the end of November. The union, following directives from the national body and the Nigeria Labour Congress, began the strike on December 6. The leadership of the union is set to meet with the Head of Service later in the day over the issue.
